Slow. Cumbersome. Anti user-friendly. The longest-running health and wellness study in the world was administered by mailing thousands of participants a hefty packet of #2 pencil, fill-in-the-circle Scantron surveys over the course of years. They approached us to digitize the entirely paper-driven system. We delivered like Grubhub.
We restructured the survey format to improve the user experience, guided by extensive user testing to ensure the experience was intuitive for older study participants and and non-digital natives.
By turning dense, single-page questionnaires into multi-step inputs with conditional logic spread across multiple screens we created a more focused UX. This also allowed us to bring in more visuals and other content to provide better contextual understanding of things like portion size, as well as creating a more engaging user experience.
Security protocols ensured that PII was well protected and the digital platform was fully compliant with data protection regulations. The account creation process, coupled with secure data matching, gave participants and administrators peace of mind. With the digital infrastructure in place, the study is now well-positioned to adapt to future technological advancements. There is potential data analytics which would further enhance the study's capabilities.
